A couple’s marriage is put to the test in Hodge’s overwrought second Richardson Sisters romance (after Owner of a Broken Heart). Attorney Robin Richardson-Baptiste always wanted children but was left barren after a bout with cancer. So when paternity test results are delivered to her doorstep proving that her husband, Logan, a cardiologist, fathered a child with another woman, she’s doubly devastated. But the test’s a fake. Logan is being set up, and he’s sure it has something to do with the complaints he’s lodged against a powerful pharmaceutical company. He’s determined to prove he’s never cheated, get his wife back, and restore his reputation—but with Robin’s three feisty sisters, a delusional nurse, and a greedy hospital administrator all vying for a piece of him, the odds are stacked against him. Luckily, he happens to be good friends with a former FBI agent, who agrees to help get to the bottom of things. The investigation is slow to start, and the repetitive communication issues between Robin and Logan grow tiresome. In the second title in Hodges' Richardson Sisters series, Nina, featured in Owner of a Broken Heart (2020), is getting married, but her older sister, Robin, isn't in the mood for the wedding since she's filing for divorce. A nurse at the hospital where Robin's doctor husband, Logan, works claims that he is the father of her baby. After a cancer diagnosis and hysterectomy, babies are a sore topic with Robin, and when the nurse sends her a DNA test, Robin moves out. Logan insists that he was never with the woman and that she somehow fabricated the DNA result. After finding her at her family's bed and breakfast before Nina's wedding, the couple has some realistic back and forth, and they decide to join forces to investigate the nurse and and refute her lies. Working together reestablishes trust, leading to lots of sexy making-up on the path to reconciliation. Readers will be cheering for vulnerable and appealing Robin and Logan as they ignore what everyone else is saying and listen to their hearts.
