Full of tasty and filling recipes, this vegetarian cookbook for kids offers up a range of more than 60 dishes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacktime.
Budding young cooks will be excited by the variety of healthy and fun vegetarian meals that are incredibly easy to make. Each recipe is carefully put together by an expert author and there is a nutritionist on board to check there's a balance of vitamins, minerals, protein, and carbohydrates throughout the book. Studies have shown that lowering your meat intake can be incredibly beneficial for you and your child's health as well as helping the environment. Food fact files and helpful tips throughout the book give advice on how to achieve a balanced diet, ensuring every nutritional need is covered for growing young minds and bodies. The pre-teen and teenager categories are often forgotten, but this all-encompassing vegetarian cookbook fills that gap by suggesting foods that will help with concentration, developing hormones, and overall mental well-being.

Gr 4-6-The initial pages in this vegetarian cookbook focus on basic kitchen safety and equipment. A brightly colored visual breakdown of the different food groups educates young readers about making good dietary choices to get necessary nutrients. The rest of the text shares various recipes divided by category ("Best Breakfasts," "Lovely Lunches"). Adventurous and picky eaters will find something to enjoy among the flavorful dishes. The recipes range in complexity, from the simple mango yogurt with toast dippers to the more complex sweet potato lasagna. Each entry features a photo of a finished dish and in-progress shots for each step. The ability to compare and mimic the recipe's steps is valuable, but cooks will need to read recipes closely. The instructions are either crammed together under a single step or scattered around the page. Adult supervision is a must for most recipes. Younger cooks will likely need assistance with cutting and conducting stove-based tasks. Nutrition information, a glossary, and an index are also included. VERDICT This vibrant cookbook will satisfy the curiosity of budding vegetarians and appeal to readers looking for meat-free recipes.-Pearl Derlaga, York County Public Library, VA
