Kinkead follows up "50 Ways To Paint Furniture" by focusing on as many ways of using decorative paint techniques to enliven ceilings and floors. Various techniques, e.g., stenciling, ragging, and wood graining, are each described in one page. Despite the easy format, these techniques are better explained in such books as Kara Wilson's "Creative Finishes". Riva ("Interior Style") also describes paint techniques with written instructions accompanied by few photographs. The strength of Riva's work lies in the color photographs showing how each technique looks in an actual room, with explanations from professional interior designers on how a technique was used to create a desired look. Presenting variations of a particular color, e.g., kelly, teal, and lime greens, with its corresponding Benjamin Moore paint helps amateur designers who need solid examples for making choices. Both books are recommended where there is a continued interest in decorative painting for interiors.
