漂亮朋友(Handsome Friend)

《漂亮朋友》是他的长篇小说代表作，一八八五年五月出版后即引起轰动，几个月内再版三十余次。法国驻阿尔及利亚殖民军的下级军官杜洛瓦来到巴黎，经友人介绍进入《法兰西生活报》当编辑，他依仗自己漂亮的外貌和取悦女人的手段，专门勾引上流社会的女子，并以此为跳板，走上飞黄腾达的道路。最后他拐走了报馆老板的女儿，迫使老板把女儿嫁给他，自己成为该报的总编辑。小说结尾还暗示他即将当上参议员和内阁部长，前程还远大着呢。（Handsome Friend, representative among his full-length novels, caused a sensation after being published in May 1885 and reprinted for more than 30 times within several months.
