Former Marine sniper and current NSA agent Jack Stone has a new face to go with his new identity. But he still has the same tortured memories—which include the woman he let get away years ago. Now his new assignment in Miami will put him so close to the woman he's never been able to forget, he could reach out and touch her—if only she weren't under suspicion.

When Sophie Moreno uncovers evidence linking the medical supply company she works for with arms smuggling—and worse—she doesn't know who to turn to. After a shocking betrayal, she realizes that the only person she can trust is a mysterious new person in the company—a man with hauntingly familiar eyes.

As Sophie questions her intense attraction to this man and Jack struggles not to blow his cover, the two of them race against the clock to stop terrorists from killing scores of people—starting with them.

Narrator Sophie Eastlake has her hands full with this romantic suspense, which is heavy on action and romantic tension. Sophie Moreno finds herself on the run with mysterious NSA agent Jack Stone after discovering the company she works for is involved in arms smuggling. Eastlake reads at a slow pace, letting the action build. She delivers Jack's voice in a deep, confident tone, while Sophie has a higher-pitched voice, with more emotion in her dialogue, which even includes some Spanish exclamations. The sexual tension is palpable between Jack and Sophie, and Eastlake's reading doesn't diminish the focus on their relationship in the face of danger and betrayal. Reus strikes just the right balance of steamy sexual tension and nail-biting action when administrative assistant Sophie Moreno joins undercover NSA agent Jack Stone, aka Sam Kelly, on a rollercoaster ride of danger. Sophie is at a routine lunch meeting with Sam, whose cover calls for him to do business with her employer, South Beach Medical Supply. Then a sniper takes aim at Sophie, who’s been snooping around links between SBMS and international drug smuggler Miguel Vargas—the same deal Sam has been sent to investigate. He pulls her to cover and for the next 48 hours they’re never more than a hair’s breadth from death. Reus ratchets up the heat and the danger with a complicated backstory: Sam and Sophie were childhood friends, but he’s had so much plastic surgery that she doesn’t recognize him, and he can’t reveal the truth or he’ll blow his cover. This romantic thriller reliably hits every note that fans of the genre will expect.
