Bullock's lively voice conveys 12-year-old Eddie's charm as he tells listeners about his perfect plan for skipping out on chores over the summer: He'll wear everything he owns, so he doesn't have to do his laundry until the day AFTER the beach bash. His plan falls apart when his mom discovers his plot. Now, he's stuck at home, and in the middle of his first enormous load the power goes out. Throughout the story, Eddie speaks directly to listeners, and Bullock portrays him with a fast, bouncy pace, taking listeners down his many meandering tangents.
